Changing Lives

Moving Forward:

Yesterday I interviewed Alfonso, the man who played the role of “Q” in the play that I spoke about, in my previous post. It was a fascinating interview and, as they always seem to be: humbling. I am looking forward to the podcast from this one.

Alfonso spoke, repeatedly, of how closely linked the story of “Q” was to his own life’s experiences. In one scene, “Q” finds himself encountered by two young thugs while walking down the sidewalk. In a mis-communication “Q” finds himself shot dead. I asked him how closely this scenario rang to his own life.

He seemed stunned at the question – stunned in the sense that it hit home. He answered by telling me of his own experiences of being shot, in a situation very much the same. “It’s like the wild west” he told me, referring to the “streets.”

Alfonso gets released from jail on Friday. He has been moved, and inspired, by his role in the play and plans to set a new direction for himself. He spoke of the dedication of his girlfriend whom, in the past, he hasn’t listened to. He now refers to her, with a smile on his face, as his handler and his therapist.

Alfonso also has an opportunity to explore acting as soon as he is released. The theater manager has taken a special interest in his talents. Alfonso also sees the potential for writing music for theater plays as well.

I have a feeling that there is more to come from this play in the not-to-distant future. For that, I will keep my fingers crossed.

Until next time…..
